I started writing all-dialogue stories when I saw how much fun Terry Bisson was having with this format. The first was “Dezyrah’s Talk Dirty To Me,” which I wrote for “hot night” at Chicago-North RWA, my Romance Writers of America chapter. We were only supposed to read ten pages. I felt pretty cocky going in, because I knew my hot scenes were much admired. Then I realized all my hot scenes were at least twenty pages long. Hey, it’s not easy to get everything—setting, backstory, visuals, emotions, sensations, and action—into ten pages! Finally I settled on writing just the dialogue, and wrestled the rest into the conversation as much as I could. It was a total hoot to write. Then I wrote two more. And here they are.
