BioClaire Youmans is a retired lawyer who has been writing all her life, producing plays, poetry, stories and articles. Her first book, How to Live Aboard and Like It, was published in 1992. Japan's ancient culture fascinated her even before she first began traveling there some 26 years ago. She has found a literary home in the tumultuous period of Meiji-era Japan with The Toki-Girl and the Sparrow-Boy series. Folklore and history combine to provide a delightful and insightful series of fantasy/adventures following Toki-girl Azuki and her brother, Sparrow-boy Shota and their human and folkloric friends as they grow up in rapidly changing world and face all the challenges of growing up as humans and birds. <br /> Besides writing, she enjoys sailing, skiing and travel. Originally from Seattle, where her daughter, son-in-law and grand-children live, Youmans now lives in Tokyo.
